Movie Review – Forgetting Sarah Marshall
Posted in Movie Review on 09/14/2008 12:00 pm by JamesThis is one of those movies I’ve been wanting to see for a long time and had just put it off. I’ll say up front it was everything I thought it would be only a whole lot funnier. It has several of my favorite actors in it including leading man Jason Segal who first caught my attention in How I Met Your Mother. One of my favorite shows. It also happened to be written by Jason Segal and several of the scenes were drawn from his moments that actually happened in his life. I’ll talk about those specific scenes towards the end so let this be your notification of a spoiler alert.
Producer Judd Apatow has been churning out these comedies for a few years now. In case you’ve been living in a hole he was behind The 40 Year Old Virgin, Knocked Up, and Superbad. His past ties has once again brought a lot of great supporting characters including Mila Kunis, Paul Rudd, and Jonah Hill. I especially enjoyed Jack McBrayer of 30 Rock fame (another amazing show). His side story was hilarious and had me in stitches.
When it comes down to it the whole movie was hilarious and kept me laughing the whole time. This is definitely a movie I would recommend if you need a laugh and something I could easily watch again in the near future. The DVD comes out September 30 and you should buy it from Amazon: Forgetting Sarah Marshall (Three-Disc Unrated Collector's Edition)
Now for the spoilers!
Jason Segal put several moments from his life in this movie. This includes the scene at the beginning where he is naked and his girlfriend dumps him. He said it was too hilarious to be sad and at the time he couldn’t wait for her to leave so he could write it down. He also had actually had tried to write a musical version of Dracula using puppets before he became a successful actor.
