7 Years and the iPod is Going Strong

Gizmodo has a little story about how the iPod has been around for seven years.  The coolest thing is they made a little mock up of all the iPods over the years, what they cost, and what features you got.  Check out that photo here.  They are missing the iPhone is an iPod, after all it is three different things in one including an iPod.  Also they’ve left off the iPod Shuffle.

My first ipod was the third generation I got back in December of 03 as a Christmas present from my wife.  Thus beginning the transformation to an Apple fan boy.   Two years later when the fifth gen came out I had to pre-order.  I had two of those.  Lost the first one and bought a new one.  Found the old one and had the new one stolen.  Such is life.  Somewhere in there I ordered the original shuffle which was awesome.  It was a 1GB memory stick and an iPod to boot.  When I used to have to run I always took that thing with me.  You could hold it in your hand and it was so light you didn’t even know it was there.  It’s still around here somewhere.  I should dig it out.  I held on to that fifth gen for 3 years until the new iPhone came out and now I use both.  It’s been good times and have gotten a lot of good use out of my iPod’s.  Money well spent I say.

  1. As I think about it, that old 3rd gen iPod is still going strong and is probably all I really need. It holds more music than I could listen to in a week and since the battery is easily replaceable that shouldn’t be a problem. My wife has been using it though so it’s pretty beat up from getting banged around in her purse. I still like the nifty new features of my later iPods though.

  3. We own 6 iPods: 1 mini, 2 1st-gen Shuffles, 1 2nd-gen Shuffle, 1 Classic, & recently a touch. Of course, the touch is MY favorite, especially for tweeting with TwitterFon.

By the way, we do own a 1st-gen Zune (I guess that’s what passes for “equal time” 🙂

NO Macs in our house YET! We’ll get one when my daughter goes to high school because Traders Point Christian Academy has now switched to Macs and each high school student has one.
